Sierra Club’s 130,000 members and supporters in Michigan endorse John Cherry for State Representative in the 49th District. According to Laurie Tata, “John Cherry earned Sierra Club’s endorsement because of his commitment to clean air, clean water, and healthy communities. John Cherry’s career is dedicated to protecting the environment through his work at the Department of Natural Resources. As the owner of Flint Coffee Company, he makes sure to provide sustainable-sourced coffee and minimize the ecological footprint of their revitalized farmland in Peru.” Robert Aguirre added, “If elected, he plans to prioritize environmental justice, climate action, and sustainable farming practices that protect the Great Lakes. We will work hard to make sure he is elected so that he can lead the fight for our families and for our future in Lansing.”
The 49th District includes the townships of Flint and Mt. Morris; the cities of Mt. Morris, Swartz Creek and part of the City of Flint. Over the past few years, the Sierra Club has worked to protect residents in Flint and the surrounding areas from the effects of lead in the water. They continue to pursue this effort along with making sure Michigan residents everywhere can enjoy clean water and a safe environment.
John Cherry says, “I am excited to receive the support and endorsement of the Sierra Club. As an outdoorsman and lover of Michigan’s outdoors and natural heritage, I look forward to working with the members of the Sierra Club to protect our natural resources and ensure future generations will continue to enjoy the wonders of our great state. I understand and support the work of their members and many others in ensuring quality drinking water for my fellow residents of Flint and all the residents of Michigan.”
